Speedrun Basics for VHOLUME

Build an Any% practice loop from hub literacy to multi-map routing.

VHOLUME Speedrun Basics Any%

VHOLUME’s demo already supports a serious speedrun hobby: timed circuits, uploadable runs, ghost loading, and community records on maps like Racetrack. This page is not a claim to hold records—it is a practice framework so you can study Any% and single-map categories without tilting yourself into quitting before 21 August 2026.

Pick a category intentionally

Common demo categories players discuss:

  • Single-map time attack (hub/Racetrack, Conapts, newer Demo2 maps)
  • Any% across the available demo progression
  • Medal pace (time to golds) as a personal category

Write your category at the top of a notes file. Mixing goals mid-session is how people burn two hours with no saveable PB.

Prerequisites before routing

  1. Calm bronze on Hub & Racetrack and Conapts.
  2. Stable binds from Controls.
  3. One unlock pass via Hidden Maps so you are not routing on incomplete content.
  4. Demo2 client updated—Steam news added maps and multiplayer fixes.

Without those, “speedrun practice” is just chaotic resets.

Sector methodology

Split every map into sectors with clear landmarks. Practise a sector for ten attempts, then full runs. When you watch a reference Any% or WR-style video, ignore the global time first; copy one sector’s line. Ghosts make this concrete—load a peer run and ghost only the sector you are repairing (Multiplayer & Ghosts).

Momentum rules that matter at pace

  • Never stop to “think” mid-ribbon; think between attempts.
  • Slides are speed tools, not flavour animations.
  • Recovery beats reset when a mistake still leaves a viable finish.
  • Record one note per attempt (“late slide before neon”) instead of vibes-only frustration.

Using community videos ethically

Study real runs mid-article on this page. Do not invent splits. Times change; ideas transfer. If a trick looks like an unintended exploit (controversial wall interactions community posts debate), decide your own ruleset and label your runs honestly in Discord or leaderboards.

Session template (60 minutes)

Warm-up literacy lap → 20 minutes sector repair → 25 minutes full attempts → 10 minutes ghost review → log PB and one failure reason. Track medals separately with the medal checklist so gold hunting does not collide with Any% nights.

Hardware and fairness

Frame time consistency matters more than max settings. Use Performance Tips so you are not “routing” around stutter. Full controller or keyboard is fine—pick one for the category.

Launch-week mindset

When the full game unlocks on 21 August 2026, demo routes may become obsolete, but sector discipline will not. Wishlist the full game, keep notes clean, and treat Demo2 as boot camp.

Closing for runners

Speedrun basics in VHOLUME are emotional management dressed as movement. Protect your practice loop, name your category, and let PBs arrive as a side effect of clean sectors.

Notes hygiene for long-term PBs

Keep a dated log: category, map build (Demo2+), preset, PB, failure reason. Without that, you will mis-attribute improvements to luck. When full release arrives on 21 August 2026, archive demo notes instead of deleting them—the method remains valuable even if routes expire. Revisit Demo2 News whenever the available map pool changes.

Emotional contract with the category

Promise yourself that a night without a PB still counts if sectors improved. Speedrun longevity in melancholic games comes from process pride, not only from leaderboard screenshots shared in Discord.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is there an official speedrun leaderboard?

The demo emphasises in-game times, ghosts, and community boards. Confirm current rules in community spaces linked from Community Links.

Should beginners learn Any% first?

No. Earn bronze on individual maps first, then attempt multi-map Any%.

Can I copy WR movement exactly?

Use WRs as sector textbooks after literacy. Blind copying before bronze creates brittle habits.

Do exploits count?

Decide and label your ruleset. This wiki does not invent patch-legal claims—follow community category rules.
